Duties

The position is located at the Environmental Management Services Division of a VA Health Care Systems, Salt Lake City, UT. The position performs both janitorial and custodial services such as sweeping, scrubbing, and waxing floors; washing windows and walls; dusting and polishing furniture and fixtures; cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting all assigned work areas as needed. Work is regularly performed by hand and with light and heavy-powered (industrial-type) cleaning equipment such as scrubbers, buffers, spray-washers, and vacuum cleaners.
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Performs a full range of cleaning duties in office buildings, hospital wards, medical clinics, kitchen areas and operating rooms, and carries out a variety of custodial duties that involve the handling, moving, and controlling of heavy powered equipment such as industrial power scrubbers, vacuums, buffers , wall washers, steam cleaners, trash compactors and cardboard baling machines.
  • Removes stains from a wide variety of surfaces, using an assortment of special cleaning and sanitizing solutions.
  • Provides complete patient room cleaning after patients are discharged from the hospital (includes both discharge cleaning and terminal cleaning) to include; completely sanitizing and decontaminating bed, commode chair, compression boot, trapeze and/or ceiling hoist, IV poles, telephones, nurse call buttons, bed side tables, over bed tables, lockers, walls, wall monitors and cords, air vents, sinks, floors, mirrors and restroom fixtures.
  • Provides bed-making services in patient wards, and doctor sleep areas. Cleans beds to include: stripping off dirty linen and placing in a hamper bag, then washing the mattress, side rails, and bed frames, and remaking the beds with clean linen.
  • Cleans all Non-Critical-Reusable Medical Equipment (NC-RME) in accordance with the manufactures instructions.
  • Wears appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) equipment (gloves, gown, etc) to ensure safety.
  • Inspects equipment for obvious damage (Dents, frayed electrical cords, cracks) and places any damaged items in the designated bin for the Bio-Medical Equipment Repair office inspection.
Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday through Friday 7:00 am-3:30 pm; OR 3:00 pm-11:30 pm OR 8:00 pm-4:30 am
