The HR Customer Services and Solutions group is currently accepting applications to fill up to 1 temporary positions at Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Appointments made under this announcement are limited to 1039 hours (six months) in a service year and may be terminated at any time. Appointments under this announcement are eligible for rehire and/or extension (when initial appointment is less than 1039 hours) if workload and funding allow. Anticipated Entry on Duty: August 2017
Theodore Roosevelt National Park is located in the badlands of western North Dakota, and includes the Theodore Roosevelt Wilderness Area. The park consists of three separate units: South Unit, Elkhorn Ranch Unit, and North Unit. The colorful Little Missouri River badlands provide a scenic backdrop to Theodore Roosevelt National Park, which is home to a variety of plants and abundant wildlife, including bison, elk, wild horses, long horn steers and bighorn sheep .
The North Unit is located 16 miles south of Watford City, North Dakota (population 1600), and is 70 miles by road from park headquarters located in Medora, North Dakota. Limited medical facilities, shopping, and schools grades K-12 are located in Watford City. Complete services and a college are located in Williston, 60 miles northwest, and complete services and a university are located in Dickinson, 70 miles southeast.
Currently a retention Incentive of 10% is paid after first full pay period valid through September 30 at which time it may or may not be paid. Work will be available through September 30th and MAY be extended into October and November depending on work needs and funding

Duties
Fee Collection As a NPS Visitor Use Assistant, incumbent is responsible for collecting appropriate fees at a park entrance station, visitor center, campground, or other visitor contact station following established accountability guidelines for handling government funds. Incumbent operates an electronic cash register, computer or Point of Sale system, performs opening and closing shift functions, issues entrance receipts, tour tickets, park passes, and federal recreation pass in accordance with established guidelines, and verifies entrance receipts and various passes for validity dates. May process refunds or upgrades as needed according to established guidelines. Incumbent completes shift reports to verify money collected, accountable stock sold and all machine transactions from the shift using journal and receipt tapes and a register of voided transactions. Safeguards funds collected and personal accountable stock. May perform campground duties such as collecting fees, monitoring campground self-registration collection activities, checking site availability, duties associated with the national campground reservation service and conducting compliance checks of campground users to ensure proper payment of fees. Visitor Information As a uniformed employee of the National Park Service (NPS), incumbent serves as a front-line representative of the agency. In many instances, the incumbent is the first and only contact the visiting public has with a NPS employee. Incumbent works at an entrance station, campground office, visitor center and/or other visitor contact station. As a NPS Visitor Use Assistant, incumbent is responsible for providing current, accurate information to visitors concerning the NPS area and other surrounding areas of interest. Other Duties Employee may spend up to 20% of their time doing other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing for long periods of time, walking, bending, lifting of moderately heavy items and sedentary work is required. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is often performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain or dense populations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods. Duties may be performed alone in isolated locations.
