This is a Career/Career-Conditional Full-Time appointment.
Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.
This position is concurrently open under Announcement Number: NPS-1616-ROCR-17-10024521-MP for merit promotion eligibles and those eligible to apply under special hiring authorities.
Duties
Operates vehicles over roads and streets through varying types of traffic and weather, through rough terrain or over open fields dependent upon the type of vehicle and the purpose for which it is to be operated.
Vehicles to be operated typically have two or more gear ranges capable of providing six or more forward speeds and have six or more driving wheels.
Vehicles are driven on the basis of specific trip assignments or regularly established schedules over public roads at varying speeds to transport passengers, supplies, materials, equipment, tools, and debris for disposal or to tow equipment throughout urban areas.
Performs operator maintenance and pre-tip checks on all vehicles operated including: monitoring fluid levels, replacing air filters and interior lights, checking tire pressure and hose connections and washing the vehicle.
Incumbent is responsible for ensuring that the vehicle is loaded properly, either loading by himself/herself or with assistance of others; and ensuring that the vehicle is not overloaded and cargo is secure and protected from weather.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:
1. Ability to do the work of Motor Vehicle Operator without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT)
2. Possess and maintain a Commercials Driver's License (SCREEN OUT)
3. Operation of Motor Vehicles
4. Ability of Inspect
5. Work Practices (including keeping things near, clean, and in order)
6. Ability to interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation)

There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
You must possess and maintain a current Class A, Type A (or higher) Commercial Driver's License. (A copy of your Driver's License MUST be submitted. If you fail to provide a copy you will be rated ineligible).
You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
