This is a Term position. Initial appointment is 13 months with possible extensions up to 4 years without further competition.
Mixed Tour of Duty: It is anticipated that the job will be full time during the busy time of year, but part time (approximately 40 hours per pay period) during the months November through February.

The enter-on-duty date is expected to be 09/17/17.
Government housing is not available except on a bid system.

Duties

The incumbent will assist the park with many administrative functions: process budget documents, record expenditure transfers, reconcile the budget, prepare travel documents, process time and attendance, procure supplies and services, assist with the development of purchase requests, and maintain property records and inventories. Types in final form from field notes, or drafts, correspondence, including letters, memoranda, and reports checking for proper format. Uses computer and appropriate software for various systems. The supervisor is the Administrative Officer for the park.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work requires sitting at a desk, standing, bending, reaching, walking and lifting.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed primarily in an office setting.
AREA INFORMATION: Zion National Park is located in southwestern Utah. Daytime temperatures average 90 to 100 in the summer and 55 in the winter. Nighttime lows range from 70 in the summer to 30 in the winter. Minimal shopping is available in Springdale, Utah located two (2) miles from Park Headquarters. A Full range of shopping, medical, dental, religious and recreational facilities are available in Hurricane, (25 miles), St. George, (45 miles), and in Cedar City, Utah (63 miles). Elementary school (grades K-6) is available in Springdale (closest town to the park) with bus service provided. Junior high and high school is available in Hurricane, with bus service provided. Dixie State University is located in St. George and Southern Utah University is located in Cedar City.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement, Friday, July 21, 2017. Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sectors.

QUALIFICATIONS: To be eligible for this position, you must possess the qualifying specialized experience and/or education as described in the occupational/assessment questionnaire and as outlined below.

Specialized Experience at the GS-5 level: Must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 level in the Federal Service. Example of specialized experience is experience such as the operation of computerized information systems, administering payroll and time and attendance, purchasing, property management, files maintenance, budget tracking, and preparation of a variety of forms and reports. To be creditable, your experience must have involved the performance of various office duties, including typing correspondence, memos, reports, and forms from rough drafts, and notes.
OR
Education: Must have successfully completed 4 years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. Please Note: If qualifying on education, you must include a copy of your transcripts.
OR
Combination of specialized experience and education. NOTE: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements. Two full academic years of study, or 60 semester hours, beyond the second year is equivalent to l year of specialized experience. For example: six months of specialized experience (50% of the experience requirement), and three years of college study from an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education). Please Note: If qualifying on education, you must include a copy of your transcripts.

EDUCATIONTo qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking or other equivalent documentation. Transcripts do not need to be official but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify then you will need to provide official transcripts before you enter on duty.

Requirements:

1. You may be required to serve a trial period of 1 year.

2. You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. Prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year thereafter (or more frequently if management determines such need exists), you will be required to sign an affidavit certifying to your possession of a valid state issued drivers license that is current and has not been revoked, suspended, canceled, or otherwise disqualified in any way to prohibit your operation of a motor vehicle.

CONDITIONS of EMPLOYMENT: This position requires that you type 40 words per minute based on a five minute sample with three or fewer errors. Please indicate in your resume that you are able to type at least 40 words per minute.
