Summary

About the Agency

This position is located in the Office of Facilities Management and Reliability (OFMR), Smithsonian Facilities (SF), Smithsonian Institution (SI). The incumbent serves under the general supervision of the Building Manager and performs a variety of duties in the zone. He/She may be required to work late shifts, weekends and holidays and is subject to being called in for emergencies to restore the Smithsonian Institution to normal operations.

Duties

• Assigns work to subordinates on assigned shift and inspects results for timeliness and quality of work.
• Reviews work while in progress or on completion and changes work plans, work assignments and methods as necessary to reduce or control costs, and to accomplish work of the unit as effectively as possible.
• Determines equipment, materia, and maintenance required.
• Arranges downtime and outages with the building managers of the affected building.
• Promotes the participation of subordinates in team efforts and programs such as beneficial suggestions, quality assurance and cost reduction.

Qualifications

In order to be rated qualified, an applicant's overall experience and training must indicate possession of the minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the duties of this position.

Physical Requirements: This position requires the physical ability to perform moderately heavy work including lifting and carrying heavy objects up to 50 lbs.; work outside in all weather conditions with exposure to dirt, dust, pollen and insects; climb ladders and stairs; and stand and walk for extended periods.
