Duties
Employee will be assigned to the Veterans Service Center at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Albany, New York. The Program Support Assistant performs a broad range of administrative activities in support of a business unit that administers health and related benefits within and integrated system of Department of Veterans Affairs health care resources and health care access points. Duties include but may not be limited to the following:

- Serves in a dual role as a health benefits advisor and provides support for special programs within the Veterans Service Center by completing various clerical and administrative assignments.
- Provides accurate, timely communication daily with Veterans, family members, medical center staff and various external stakeholders in determining eligibility, commencing the enrollment process and other program areas within the Veterans Service Center.
- Gathers personal information about Veteran applicants, submits requests for ID cards, and advises the Veteran about their benefits.
- Manages the Beneficiary Travel, Personal Funds of the patient and Decedent Affairs program areas for Veterans.
- Links Veterans to the appropriate medical center staff in order to schedule primary care visits and appropriate programs and personnel depending on the needs of the Veteran.
- Maintains knowledge of the eligibility requirements for Department of Veterans Affairs Healthcare and Sharing Agreements (TriCare abd CHAMPVA) and coherently communicates this knowledge to Veterans.
- Researches eligibility to determine if the Veteran is eligible for Department of Veterans Affairs Healthcare, performs a varied range of duties related to the enrollment and eligibility determination of Veterans.
