Duties



Duty Location: ALBANY, NY


This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-09. At the GS-07 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-09. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds.

NOTE:  This position is a developmental position in the VHA Technical Career Field Training Program and as such is managed with specific criteria associated with the position. The goal of the program is to prepare Inventory Management Specialists for assignments nationally.  You will be subject to the following requirements listed below:

1.    As part of the VA's succession planning, the Technical Career Field (TCF) training program was created to ensure individuals are trained in critical areas that have current or predicted shortages. The program is nationally funded to include salary, benefits and training/travel dollars. At the time of acceptance into the TCF program, trainees will be asked to sign mobility, training, and service agreements. Relocation expenses for acceptance into the training program or for placement are not funded by the TCF program. Please keep in consideration, the training program is meant for those individuals who plan on staying with the VA a minimum of 3 years after completion of their training program.


2.    Although not guaranteed, with more than 150 freestanding facilities and hundreds of clinic locations, we will strive to place trainees in positions that will work for him/her and the needs of the VA.


This position is responsible for completing inventory management of stocked and special order items which are procured within the Logistics Service at the Albany, NY VA Medical Center (VAMC) and it affiliates. Provide data and inventory management for services within the VAMC approved for procurement and stock. This position utilizes the Generic Inventory Package (GIP) and computerized inventory management tools to manage, coordinate, control, and purchase a variety of Operating Room supplies, equipment, and instrumentation required to support all clinical areas and providers, to include four Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC's) of the VAMC and its affiliates. Responsibilities include coordination with Network Contracting Office (NCO) logistics, vendors, providers, and medical staff to ensure that inventory is readily available in support of direct patient care by the Logistics Service.

Major Duties:

Collaborates with surgeons, Operating Rooms (OR) staff, and the anesthesia department regarding needed new products such as instruments, disposable supplies, and equipment.


Perform research on the item(s), goes back to the requestor to ensure that what is needed is correct, then prepares and submits a Clinical Product Review Committee (CPRC) request using the information.


Attend the CPRC meeting to present the item(s). Once the item(s) is approved, enter the item(s) information into the GIP inventory system and into the formulary electronic system.


Facilitates the replacement of supplies and instrumentation for depleted or back ordered items that can be obtained from other vendors providing a like item suitable to perform the function of the original until the original is obtainable.


Work with the Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) Network Contracting Office procurement lead and with the contracting officer, to resolve any procurement issues.


Perform other related duties as assigned.


Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00am 3:30pm, 7:30am 4:00pm or 8:00am 4:30pm Monday through Friday
