This position is located in the Housekeeping Department within the Kayenta Service Unit.  The Housekeeping Aid is responsible for providing a full range of environmental sanitation and maintenance, as well as visual cleanliness throughout the facility.  The incumbent reports to the Support Services Supervisor.
NOTE:  COMPETITION FOR HOUSEKEEPING AID POSITIONS ARE RESTRICTED BY LAW TO PERSONS ENTITLED TO VETERAN'S PREFERENCE, AS LONG AS SUCH APPLICANTS ARE AVAILABLE FOR APPOINTMENT.  FOR APPLICANTS APPLYING UNDER THE PROVISION OF THE EXCEPTED SERVICE EXAMINING PLAN, CONSIDERATION FOR THIS POSITION IS LIMITED TO APPLICANTS ENTITLED TO VETERANS PREFERENCE.  IF THERE ARE LESS THAN THREE (3) VETERANS AVAILABLE, NON-PREFERENCE ELIGIBLES MAY BE CONSIDERED.

The IHS is required by law to give absolute preference to qualified applicants who meet the Secretary of the Interior's definition of Indian for appointment to vacancies within the IHS in accordance with established IHS policy as outlined in the Indian Health Manual Part 7, Chapter 3. Duties


Super Clean Areas:
  • Scrubs, cleans and disinfects floors, sinks, commodes, plumbing and door fixtures, windows, windowsills, tops of closets and mirrors with germicidal solution.  On a weekly basis, the delivery room should be completely cleaned and disinfected and the floors scrubbed using a mechanical tool (scrubbing machine).  Replenish paper towel dispenser and soap dispensers.  Change mopping solution after every room.
  • Maintain the isolation units, infant pediatric units using the prescribed protection isolation cleaning procedures.  This involves cleaning and disinfecting the floors, sinks, commodes, door and plumbing fixtures, mirrors and spot wiping the walls.
Other   Areas:
  • Vacuums, dusts and wet mop floors, corridors, offices, utility rooms, with germicidal mopping solution.  Scrubs and cleans the linen rooms, offices, lounges, bathroom and other areas, using a germicidal solution for disinfecting.  Scrubs and cleans commodes, urinals, sinks, plumbing and door fixtures, mirrors, soap and paper towel dispensers.
  • Vacuums and cleans carpeting throughout the hospital/clinic, cleans ventilation louvers, washes walls, windowsills.
  • Replenish toilet tissue, paper towels, and soap dispensers on as needed basis.
  • Strips conditions and re-applies floor finishes and polishes floors with high speed polishing machine as necessary.
  • Empty wastebaskets and trash containers, on a daily basis.
  • Removes non-infectious and infectious waste such as biological materials, solid linens, and disposes hazardous waste following established protocols.
