In this position, you will serve as an Archives Technician with the National Archives and Records Administration, Research Services, Archival Operations - St. Louis, located at 1 Archives Drive in Spanish Lake, Missouri.
This is a TERM appointment with an initial employment period of 13 months. The appointment may be extended up to a maximum of four years without further competition.

Duties
Typical work assignments include:
Arrangement: Performs detailed arrangement tasks where general arrangement plan is provided by supervisor. Identifies records with the originating agency, organization, or individual involved, and arranges according to the original record keeping system. Detects missing or misfiled items and enclosures that have been separated from their covering communication. Assists in preparation of appropriate cross-reference for records previously filed in a different series or record group. Prepares new folders as needed and re-files misplaced folders in proper order. Occasionally provides oversight to laborers who are packing, shelving, or moving records; preparing labels lists or affixing labels to containers and folders.
Preservation and Rehabilitation: Assists with archival project work accomplishing particular repair and rehabilitation projects with or without the aid of other archives technicians including processing, arrangement, preservation and holdings maintenance and description. Work may involve the handling of documents requiring basic preservation, appropriate repair, rehabilitation and conservation processes.
Description and Publication: Provides support for description work and microfilm publications. Divides records of similar and uniform physical type into predetermined segments for individual rolls of microfilm, prepares title sheets for such rolls and, in the course of arrangement of work for microfilm publications. Immediately preceding the filming of records that the incumbent has arranged marks the points of roll division and inserts editorial material in the records in the place where it is to be filmed. After records are filmed, as assigned, assists in the inspection of records and microfilm for proper arrangement. Assists higher graded specialists in preparing inventories, "training lecture" guides, or other description and publication projects.
Miscellaneous: Assists in physically loading and unloading containers of records and the disposition of the containers. Perform quality control tests and audits, shelving records in accordance with approved plans, moving blocks of records from one area to another while maintaining them in proper order, and removing records from the shelves in accordance with approved plans. Prepares detailed internal finding aids fro series or records with which the incumbent is familiar, such as indexes and shelf lists. Provides technical assistance to other section employees, as directed, providing training to, or conducting quality checks of work performed. May provide oversight to other employees in the placement of new accessions, disposal, or relocation of records. Assures the timely and accurate accomplishment of records projects taking all steps necessary to prevent the erroneous disposition of documents. Assures proper procedures are followed and submits necessary documents and reports fro review and approval. May serve in the capacity of or perform the duties related to office administration, reception and mail room. Greets visitors, answers phones and directs calls to the appropriate staff person.
