This position of STAFF ASSISTANT starts at a salary of $33,871 (GS-05, Step 01) to $66,721 (GS-09, Step 10). The full performance level of this position is GS-09.

Duties
The duties described are for the full-performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence, and limited complexity.
As a STAFF ASSISTANT, you will:
Prepare and/or review correspondence written for the managers including letters, reports, charts, briefing materials, and talking points.
Coordinate administrative projects to include the development, analysis, and modification of internal administrative policies, procedures, and management processes of the office.
Maintain the manager's schedule and coordinates logistical arrangements for interviews, events, and meetings for the management staff.
Monitor administrative functions and transactions and prepare a variety of reports utilizing various databases and automated systems.
Assist with procurement activities and the maintenance of office supply and equipment inventories.
Screen calls and visitors and resolve routine administrative matters to avoid unnecessary interruptions to the management staff.

Qualifications
GS-05: You qualify at the GS-05 level if you possess three years of progressively responsible experience, one year of which was equivalent to the GS-04 level in the federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties:
Analyzing problems to identify significant factors, gathering pertinent data, and recognizing solutions; planning and organizing work; and communicating effectively, orally and in writing. Such experience may have been gained in administrative, professional, technical, investigative, or other responsible work. Experience in substantive and relevant secretarial, clerical, or other responsible work is qualifying if it provided evidence of the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position. Experience of a general clerical nature (typing, filing, routine procedural processing, maintaining records, or other non-specialized tasks) is not creditable. OR
You may substitute successful completion of a Bachelor's degree or a full 4-year course of study in any field leading to a Bachelor's degree for the experience required at the GS-05 grade level. This education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester or 45 quarter hours.
GS-07: In addition to the requirements at the lower grade level, you qualify at the GS-07 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties:
Providing administrative support to a high level official with the requirement to maintain calendars, appointments, and schedules;
Resolving a variety of routine clerical and/or administrative problems;
Monitoring projects to ensure deadlines are met;
Preparing and/or reviewing written correspondence to ensure a high standard of accuracy and clarity; OR
You may substitute successful completion of one year of full-time graduate education for the experience required at the GS-07 level. This education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university and demonstrate the skills necessary to do the work of the position. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise a year of graduate education. If that information is not available, use 18 semester or 27 quarter hours; OR
You may also substitute superior academic achievement for the experience required at the GS-07 level. You must have completed the requirements for a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, class standing in the upper third of a graduating class or major subdivision or membership in a national scholastic honor society.
GS-09: In addition to the requirements at the lower grade levels, you qualify at the GS-09 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties:
Analyzing established administrative procedures to improve effectiveness and efficiencies;
Evaluating equipment and supply needs and arranging necessary procurement actions;
Preparing reports and/or conducting briefings on administrative projects and sensitive programmatic issues;
Providing administrative guidance through the development of training and resource materials, manuals, and/or operating procedures; OR
You may substitute a Master's degree or two full years of graduate education leading to such a degree in any field, or a J.D. or L.L.B. degree, if related, for experience required at the GS-09 grade level. Such education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise two years of graduate education. If that information is not available, use 36 semester or 54 quarter hours.
