This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Office of Policy (PLCY). The Office of Policy provides policy development and coordination, strategy, planning, and analysis to the DHS Secretary and other Departmental leaders to facilitate decision-making and other critical maters that may arise in a dynamic homeland security threat environment. PLCY is responsible for strengthening our Nation's homeland security by developing DHS-wide policies, programs, and planning to promote and ensure quality, consistency, and integration across all homeland security missions.
The incumbent applies knowledge of professional social science disciplines (sociology, economics, international law, international relations, political science, history, or law) to the development of Department-wide policies and strategies, the production of risk-informed strategic assessments of urgent issues, and the administration of capstone strategy processes and products such as the QHSR and the DHS Strategic Plan.

Duties
- Reviews, evaluates, and applies concepts and findings from social science and related fields to strategic planning and to the analysis of homeland security missions, issues, and policies.
- Applies standard guidance and methods to draft strategic & policy documents, including topical and regional strategies, as well as strategic plans.
- Conducts analyses on current and future mission needs to support development of DHS strategies, policies, and plans.
- Contributes to data analyses and research reporting to delineate policy differences; identifies political, economic, and security consequences, as well as complications of current/proposed policies and that provides insight on viable policy options.
- Develops position papers, briefing memos, and PowerPoint presentations to communicate findings and strategy to senior decision-makers.
- Through research, provides supporting and specific data or for use in speeches, hearings, conferences, meetings, and written responses to inquiries from other DHS Agencies and/or Components.
- Conducts research for special projects, including producing foundational analyses and written products, fostering communication and collaboration within DHS or across the homeland security enterprise.
