The Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, the National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE), Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, Dilorenzo Clinic and the Joint Pathology Center, provide world class medical services to the nation's service members and their families.
Parking at WRNMMC is very limited and is primarily first come, first serve. The use of commuting alternatives is highly recommended. The Mass Transit Fringe Benefits (MTFB) are available to Federal Civilian employees. This is in addition to the current salary, up to $ 125 per month (subject to change), for the commuting costs using Mass Transit. MTFB can be applied to rail, bus and/or approved vanpools but not parking costs.

This position is located within the Directorate of Nursing, Department of Medical Nursing, Medical and Total Joint Nursing (5C) at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda, MD.

Duties
The incumbent of this position will perform a variety of clerical functions related to specific ward procedures at a large Medical Treatment Facility (MTF). The incumbent will be assigned to an inpatient setting, and is responsible for the supervisory unit/ward team/service. The incumbent may have a primary ward or may rotate to several different wards. Under the direction of the supervisory unit/ward team/service manager, initiates and carries out a variety of clerical duties associated with the treatment of patients and ward management. Enters, manipulates, and retrieves information and data from automated systems, as appropriate to the area assigned. Completes order entries involving patient activities, diets, tests, and medications. Receives patients and visitors as the initial point of contact, in person or telephonically. Enters and retrieves data from various automated medical systems such as the Composite Health Care System (CHCS), the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and the Workload Management System for Nursing Internet (WMNSi), as appropriate to the area assigned. Incumbent will process and input time worksheets into the Defense Medical Human Resources System (DHMRSi). Responsible for the clerical duties inherent in the admission and discharge of patients.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Experience required: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as performing clerical duties and functions associated with the treatment of patients such as: working in a medical treatment facility or clinic setting retrieving, entering and manipulating information in various automated medical systems such as, CHCS, AHLTA, WMNSi, DHMRSi; receiving patients and visitors in person and by telephone; documenting patient information in medical records and/or charts. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-05: Successful completion of four years of education above the high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to this position such as medical office support processes. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-05: If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education above the high school level in excess of 60 semester hours (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
Qualified Typist required: This position requires the incumbent be a qualified typist, being able to type 40 words per minute.

The incumbent will work a 40-hour, 5-day week schedule and may be required to work rotating shifts.
The incumbent of this position will be permanently assigned to one location, but may be temporarily moved to another location due to workload considerations, staffing shortages or other factors affecting patient care in the medical center.
