Located in the heart of the Pacific Northwest's Puget Sound region, Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) is the Defense Department's premiere military installation in the northwest and is the most requested duty station in the Army. Fort Lewis, named after Meriwether Lewis of the Lewis and Clark expedition, is one of the largest and most modern military reservations in the United States and consists of 87,000 acres of prairie land cut from the glacier-flattened Nisqually Plain.

Duties

Apply a practical knowledge of youth recreational activities and skills in the use of various types of recreation equipment. Instruct children/youth on proper use of variety of equipment's. Identifies age-appropriate equipment for procurement, selects vendor, and purchases gear/equipment as needed. Maintain hand receipts and collects all inventoried items. Inspects supplies and equipment for damage. Ensures sufficient supplies are on hand and equipment in good condition to support the sports and fitness program. Assists in setting up sports events and may assist in athletic programs as needed. Maintains an effective safety and accident prevention program. Conducts daily safety and maintenance checks of facilities, grounds, and outdoor recreation areas. Ensures no observable hazard exists in program areas e.g., walks the playing/practice surface looking for debris and other hazards, evaluates fences, bleachers and other structures for potential hazards Serves as a member of the Installation Child and Youth Evaluation Team to ensure compliance with health, fire, safety, facility and program regulatory requirements for the Youth Sports and Fitness Program. Responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of facilities. Operates various types of equipment in support of athletic field maintenance such as lawn mowers, tractors with attachments, edging and pruning tools, trimmers, rakes, and trucks. Performs other duties as assigned.

Work involves indoors and outdoors and may be exposed to adverse weather conditions.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
Possess progressively responsible work experience that provided knowledge of equipment, facility maintenance, inventory, ordering, instructing and able to use different recreation equipment. Have experience working with customers face to face, through telephone conversations or by email. Possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs, walk, bend, stoop and stand on a routine basis.

Highly Qualified Criteria:
1. Highly Qualified Candidates will possess three (3) years experience working in a youth sports setting that promotes positive child and youth interactions with other children, youth and adults.
2. Possess three (3) years experience working directly with a youth sports team to include coaching, mentoring and conducting observations in youth sports.

Conditions of Employment:

3. A successful background investigation (CNACI) submission to the Office of Personnel Management is a condition of employment that must be met prior to entrance on duty.

Schoolteachers, childcare center workers, youth program workers, and volunteers are administered appropriate vaccines against communicable diseases in accordance with ACIP adult immunization schedule recommendations, unless already immune, based on seroimmunity, physician diagnosed illness, or documented proof of immunization.
