About the Position:This position is in Hydrology & GIS Section, Hydrology & Hydraulics Branch, Engineering Division located in downtown Los Angeles, California.

Duties

Serves as Senior Civil Engineer and as a Work Group Leader performing hydrologic and hydraulics (H&H) engineering studies of surface water, ground water, sediment and debris production, water quality, meteorology, water surface profiles, sedimentation engineering, river morphology, and stream bank protection. These studies are in support of water resources planning; design and construction; reservoir regulation; and flood plain management. Studies include H&H analyses for complex projects involving dams, detention basins, debris basins, channels, levees, dikes, local drainage, water supply, groundwater, and water quality. May be assisted by subordinate engineers, hydrologists and technicians and therefore advises them on solutions to technical problems. Prepares, administers, and reviews contracts for H&H engineering studies awarded to architect/engineer firms and other Corps of Engineers elements.

Experience required:
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: conducting a variety of hydraulic and hydrologic analyses in support of water resources projects, conducting engineering studies using a variety of applications, to include hydraulic and hydrologic modeling software.
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:

• Knowledge of Hydraulic and Hydrologic Engineering Practice.
• Ability to lead and mentor teams.
• Skill in preparing Hydraulic and Hydrologic reports.
• Ability to communicate.
