Duties

NOTE: This is a TERM appointment (not-to-exceed 366 days). Term appointments are non-status, nonpermanent appointments of limited duration (more than 1 year but not more than 4). Term employees are eligible to earn leave and generally have the same benefits as permanent employees including health and life insurance, within-grade increases and Federal Employees Retirement System and Thrift Savings Plan coverage. Term appointments may be extended without further competition (up to the 4 year maximum). The appointment to a Term position does not confer eligibility for promotion or reassignment to other positions or the ability to be non-competitively converted to permanent employment.

This position is located in the Advanced Platform Technology (APT) Center which is a Department of Veterans Affairs Center of Excellence for Rehabilitation Research and Development at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center (LSCVAMC) in Cleveland, OH. The Administrative Support Assistant will be responsible for management and programmatic coordination and support of a number of business functions within the APT Center.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:
  • Conducts all preparatory and planning work for events;
  • Attends events, takes meeting minutes and communicates final minutes and action items to the team;
  • Assists with the completion of manuscripts, applications for funding, scientific posters, and scientific articles;
  • Uses computer word processing, desktop publishing, and database management retrieval systems;
  • Prepares complex tables and graphs;
  • Prepares background materials and scripts for speaking engagements;
  • Prepares reports and grants for the center and individual researchers as needed;
  • Provides support to the APT Center and researchers in handling requests from the media;
  • Screens telephone calls and visitors to the center;
  • Reads incoming mail and composes answers to routine letters and inquiries;
  • Manages travel arrangements for staff;
  • Uses a government purchase card to obtain supplies for the office as needed; and
  • Performs related duties as required.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm
