About the Position:
The President has ordered a government-wide hiring freeze subject to certain limited exceptions.  This position is subject to the hiring freeze.  Although we are moving forward with the consideration of candidates, we will not make a selection for this vacancy announcement unless and until the position is no longer subject to the hiring freeze.
This position is with the US Army Geospatial Center (AGC), Security Office, in Alexandria, VA. This is a permanent position.
Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veterans preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment. Non-veterans/non-preference eligibles will be considered only after all preference eligibles have been considered.
This is a key designated position that cannot be vacated during a national emergency or disaster without seriously impairing the capability of the parent organization to function effectively. This position requires reporting and remaining on duty during all types of weather conditions.

Duties


In this position you will serve as an armed guard engaged in protecting property, materials, and equipment as well as personnel against injury, damage, fire, theft and possible acts of terrorism, sabotage and espionage. Perform guard duty during duty and non-duty hours. You will respond to incidents; controls access to the facility after hours and on weekends; searches and escorts various types of supply and delivery vehicles; stands guard duty; performs roving security patrol and traffic control duties; operates radios to pass and receive information. Prevent unauthorized or inadvertent entry into limited and exclusion areas within the complex. Perform security checks on all secure areas within the facility. Conduct inspection of all areas at regular Intervals including checking of doors, locks, and vents; condition of fencing; potential fire and safety hazards; and specific actions indicated. Take appropriate actions when deficiencies are noted. Respond to medical emergencies within the complex and coordinates fire and EMS support as required. Monitor Closed Circuit TV to ensure security coverage of the entire complex. Respond to alarms within the exclusion areas of the facility within prescribed timelines and provides security coverage during facility evacuation.
