This is a TEMPORARY SEASONAL POSITION that will generally last at least 3 months but no longer than 6 months (or 1039 working hours) within one service year.

Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.

This position is located within the National Park Service, Pacific West Region, Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Visitor and Resource Protection Division, Support Services Organization, Interagency Communications Center (ICC), in Boulder City, NV.

Duties

Receives, evaluates and inputs all business line telephone calls, 9-1-1 telephone calls or other public emergency calls on marine band radio into the computer aided dispatch (CAD) system. Uses training, key questions and judgment to interpret information provided. Enters and accesses information into the computer aided dispatch (CAD) system. Utilizes computer software and databases to produce spreadsheets, correspondence, reports, forms, memorandums, etc. Provides data entry, organization, retrieval, manipulation, analysis, and recommendations for a variety of dispatch related actions. Performs general Communications Center duties such as filing, typing, copying, scanning, maintaining updated weather information, shredding of designated paperwork, or providing copies of case incident reports to authorized individuals or entities. Assists in the safeguarding of confidential information. Information of this type includes (but is not limited to) criminal history information on individuals, details of investigations in progress, and details pertaining to the movement of visiting dignitaries.  Assists with ensuring the security of the NCIC (National Crime Information Center) documents in compliance with NCIC standards.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is sedentary. Typically the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. There may be some walking, standing, bending and carrying light items such as papers and books. The work is performed in an office setting. The work area typically is adequate lighted, heated, and ventilated.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements (including any applicable selective factors) must be met by the closing date of the announcement in order to be considered.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR:  In order to successfully perform the duties of this position, you must must show proficiency of a Typing Speed of at least 40 words per minute (WPM). You must document your typing speed on your resume or upload a certificate of proficiency dated within the past 3 years. Failure to provide this information will result in you being determined ineligible.

In addition to meeting this Selective Placement Factor requirement:

FOR THE GS-03: You must possess 6 months of general experience.  General experience for this position is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position, i.e., performing public safety call taking duties using personal computers and software programs. Public Safety call taking includes, but is not limited to: answering 9-1-1 calls and other emergency reporting systems; receiving requests for service; receiving, evaluating, and summarizing complaints prior to dispatch of the information; tracking safety and welfare of employees, complaints, and incidents; record keeping; and communicating with difficult callers.

NOTE: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).  Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.  Credit will be given for all qualifying experience regardless of whether compensation was received and whether the experience was gained as a part-time or full-time occupation. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.  To receive credit for such experience, your resume must indicate clearly:
1.     The nature of your duties and responsibilities in each position; and
2.     Complete dates of employment period (e.g. MM/YY to MM/YY, MM/YY to Present, etc.); and3.     The number of hours per week spent in such employment for each position.

In lieu of the specialized experience requirements you may substitute the following education: Successful completion of at least one year of education above high school (30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours).

A combination of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total minimum qualification requirements. It is your responsibility to provide documented proof that you have met the applicable educational provisions. Unofficial college transcript(s); a statement from the registrar, dean, or other appropriate official; or equivalent documentation (a listing of college courses completed) is acceptable. Failure to submit your documentation will result a "not qualified" rating. Official transcripts will be required prior to a start date. NOTE: Education must be accredited by an institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education's College Accreditation Website.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Foreign education credentials must be evaluated by an organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. This is a Temporary Appointment NTE 1039 hours and is a full-time position.
