Duties
This announcement is open to CURRENT, NON-TEMPORARY employees of the Department of Veterans Affairs
This position is located in the Labor and Employee Relations Section in the Human Resources Management Service of the Robley Rex Louisville VA Medical Center. You will be responsible for counseling a variety of current and former employees/beneficiaries/relatives on federal employment benefits and processing a full range of personnel actions under different personnel systems (e.g., general schedule (GS), wage grade (WG), hybrid Title 38, Title 38, and Title 5). You will provide support to Benefits and Employee Relations/Labor Relations Specialists. Major duties and responsibilities include :
· Develops, compiles, maintains, and evaluates data for reports of accountability and maintenance of database information;
· Gather and compile information for recurring and non-recurring reports;
· Provides consultation, advice, guidance, and assistance to current employees, former employees, annuitants, survivors, and eligible family members regarding retirement, insurances, health benefits, and leave;
· Reviews and assists employees in completing required agency forms concerning health insurance, life insurance, Thrift Savings Plan, required beneficiary forms, etc.;
· Explains retirement options to employees;
· Conducts and participates in special informational seminars held regarding retirement, insurances, and benefits;
· Develops handouts and training materials for New employee Orientation session and programs;
· Assists HR Specialists with preparing a variety of documents related to employee relations, labor relations, and benefits.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, Full-Time, 8:00am-4:30pm.
Position Description: Human Resources Assistant (OA), 40065-A
Physical Requirements: The work of this position is sedentary. Some work may require walking, standing, and bending. The employee frequently carries light items such as employee files or other papers. The work does not require any special physical effort.
NOTE: This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed above represent the full performance level of GS-7. At the GS-6 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-7.
The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade DOES NOT guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
