Summary

The Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, the National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE), Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, Dilorenzo Clinic and the Joint Pathology Center, provide world class medical services to the nation's service members and their families.



About the Position:
This is an administrative front desk position in a large IM/IT department of a military hospital.  The working environment is climate controlled and at a desk location.  It is mostly sedentary work but does occasionally require walking to various departments within the hospital to affect coordination and administrative task completion. It may require occasional lifting of office supply boxes weighing up to 30 pounds.
This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Duties


The incumbent will produce a variety of correspondence containing specialized information and terminology, recurring reports, charts, and statistical data utilizing various types of software including word processing, spreadsheet and database applications, file management and control; electronic mail, communications, and calendars in accordance with applicable regulations, business practices, and established guidelines.
Assists the Supervisor's subordinates in the procedural aspects of expediting the work of the office, including such matters as shifting clerical help in subordinate offices to take care of fluctuating workload; assisting subordinates to implement the Administrative Coordinator's instructions concerning procedures; explaining report requirements and arranging with subordinate officials for the collection and submission of data for assembly into general reports.
Receives and reviews correspondence and reports which are submitted to supervisor for clearance or signature for format, typographical accuracy, conformance with procedural instructions, proper assembly, appropriateness of references, and required background material.
Processes customer inquiries received in person, over the telephone, or by electronic communications and relative to a broad range of subjects, evaluates requests, provides requested information or refers inquiry to supervisor or appropriate point of contact for detailed responses.
Informs and instructs officials, technicians, and lower grade clerical personnel in the office concerning established procedures for the preparations and clearance of correspondence, and action documents.
Independently determines whether mail of a critical or sensitive nature should be held for supervisor when absent from the office, or should be routed directly to the action office, retaining a copy of such correspondence or directing its return for supervisor's review.
Applies knowledge of the various types of information systems and/or software capabilities and functions to resolve problems with current automated support methods or to complete nonstandard assignments.
Produces varied administrative reports, technical papers, correspondence or written documents which may require incumbent to integrate data from different software or other sources into a single document.
Maintains control records on incoming correspondence and action documents and follows up on work in process, to ensure timely reply or action.
