Help bring research to life and drive your career forward with the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), Canada's premier research and technology organization.
We are looking for a vibrant and dynamic Mechanical Technician to support our Aerospace Research Centre. This person would be someone who shares our core values of impact, accountability, leadership, integrity and collaboration.
The incumbent will be part of an Operations and Mechanical Support team serving the Gas Turbine Lab’s (GTL) Performance & Operability, and the Icing Teams.
The tasks, as assigned, will be to support the conduct of gas turbine engine research and testing, as well as to support facility maintenance and upgrade activities.
Working under the supervision of more senior staff, the incumbent will be expected to perform fabrication of test apparatus and experimental rigs, and also operate test equipment and facilities as per documented procedures and/or verbal instructions. Once trained in their duties, the incumbent will be reasonably expected to complete assigned tasks and sub-tasks independently.
From time to time, the work can also include early-morning or late-evening shifts to accommodate flexible testing timeframes.

Screening criteria

Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

Education

Diploma from a post-secondary Engineering Technologist program in Mechanical or Aircraft maintenance or related field.

Experience

Basic experience with safe operation of hand and power tools, and/or material handling equipment;
Basic experience working with mechanical component, assembly and disassemble;
Basic experience in operating industrial equipment; and
Asset:
Experience in using CAD software packages.

Assessment criteria

Candidates will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:

Technical competencies:

Ability to assemble and disassemble mechanical component;
Basic knowledge of fundamentals of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics;
Ability to interpret technical drawings, and process & instrumentation diagrams; and

Basic knowledge of basic safety considerations relevant to a gas turbine test cell.
