About the Position: Located in the scenic Hudson River valley, only 50 miles from New York City, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point is a four-year academic institution, a nationally-renowned historic site, and the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. The undergraduates, known as cadets, are commissioned as officers in the US Army upon graduation. You can watch them on parade or competing as intercollegiate athletes in a wide range of sports events. As a military installation, West Point is a small, self-contained city with housing for the military stationed here in support of the Academy, a Department of Public Works to maintain the roads, grounds and facilities, two libraries (Academic and Community), a military hospital, fire department, chapels, restaurants. West Point's 3,000 civilian employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, the Hudson Valley's premiere performing arts center, and to recreational facilities such as an 18-hole Golf Course and Ski Slope.

Duties

You will serve as a Laborer in the Directorate of Logistics performing a variety of laboring, warehousing, and service issue tasks at any and all of the established warehousing and customer service locations within the Military Academy and its training sites. Major duties will include:

• Perform manual labor tasks in the warehouse and service issue activities.
• Receive and Issue items from customers as well as stocking items.
• Loading and uploading materials and supplies.
• Receive, deliver and assemble packages.
• Perform general cleaning and housekeeping tasks.
• Perform snow removal and other lawn care maintenance

Qualifications

Experience required:  Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

SCREEN OUT:  Your resume must indicate your overall knowledge, skills and ability and/or training to perform the duties of a Labor WG-3502-03 as stated in the duties of the position without more than normal supervision. 
There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the work of the position without more than normal supervision.
To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Stands, stoops, bends, and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May be required to work at a rapid pace for prolonged periods. Frequently lifts and carries material weighing up to 50 pounds, and regularly is required to lift, carry, and handle items weighing over 80 pounds. When working as a member of a team, often lifts the heaviest objects with the assistance of another worker or workers.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside subject to heat, cold, damp, drafty, or poorly lighted areas. May work on open docks or storage yards. Work may be dirty, dusty, and greasy. The incumbent is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, and bruises; falls from ladders; or injury from material handling and other equipment. Required to utilize and wear appropriate safety gear.
