Packaging Specialist

Illovo Sugar Malawi Limited wishes to recruit a Packaging Specialist to be based at Nchalo Mill but regularly travelling to Dwangwa Mill. Reporting to the Packaging Manager, the successful candidate will be accountable for the provision of operational and technical maintenance services to the Packaging Stations at both Nchalo and Dwangwa Mills.

Main Duties and Responsibilities 

• Managing mechanical, electrical and instrumentation functions in the Packaging station whilst adhering to accepted engineering and quality standards.
• Implementing effective preventative maintenance systems to reduce packaging machinery down time.
• Maintaining optimal packaging spares and materials in order to achieve budgeted production targets on a sustainable basis.
• Providing technical and operational guidance to Packaging maintenance teams and Operators.
• Identifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives in order to scale up production efficiency in the Packaging operations whilst meeting all Quality and Food Safety standards.
• Creating and maintaining a safe working environment by implementing effective SHE systems.
• Implementing and maintaining effective change control procedures for materials and machinery.

Qualification & Experience

• Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• In depth knowledge of engineering installations in Packaging industry.
• Sound experience of NPS and PMD Packing machines.
• Good interpersonal, analytical, problem solving, communication and supervisory skills.
• Must be computer literate and be proficient in Microsoft Office
• At least 5 years working experience as a Maintenance Foreman and preferably having worked in a food manufacturing industry.
